Thomas Sails Away ~ May 28th - June 1st

During one of our weeks of rain, Thomas left with his Gr. 8 class to sail for five days & 4 nights around the Gulf Islands. His older brothers had each done this to celebrate the end of Middle School but thankfully this event was still planned for his class even though the Gr. 8 classes are now part of the High School. The SALTS program is based out of Victoria, so the students had an early morning start to catch a ferry. I had some initial misgivings about the concept of Thomas being on a boat for that long, but he did well in learning new skills, in being healthy, and just having a great time.

 Boarding the "Pacific Swift"
As much as it may have eased my mind, Thomas did not wear this all the time!
A frightening thought... he's steering the boat?!
Thomas and Christian
The other class was nearby on the "Pacific Grace"
Hanging out with friends...
And here I was worried about all the rain...
Not Thomas up here, but he did climb the rigging as well. (In a harness...)
Enjoying the close bunking quarters...
A short trip onto a nearby island for games and lessons.
I'm assuming someone knew what to do...
What a great trip to go on...  it looks so peaceful.

I was grateful to Thomas' teacher for taking photos along the way, as we wouldn't have had any. This video is pretty funny... if it works. Here's Thomas, the entertainer... just like his Dad.

Congratulations on your first year at High School, Thomas! You take it all in stride. :)
